We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to join our reinsurance team. The role assesses, analyze, and underwrite treaty and facultative reinsurance risks within assigned authority by evaluating exposures, pricing adequacy, and underwriting terms and conditions. Prepare underwriting recommendations and documentation, negotiate with brokers and cedants, and ensure compliance with company guidelines and authority limits. Manage assigned accounts and portfolio performance, maintain accurate underwriting records, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and support business development initiatives while monitoring market trends, regulatory developments, and industry conditions.
Jo Scope
• Assess, analyze, and underwrite treaty and/or facultative reinsurance submissions.
• Assist with posting basic journal entries and other accounting entries as assigned.
• Evaluate risk exposures, loss history, occupancy, construction, protection, risk quality, pricing, deductibles, limits, and key terms and conditions.
• Review and challenge pricing adequacy, clauses, exclusions, commissions, fronting fees, and other relevant underwriting terms.
• Prepare underwriting summaries, referral notes, reports, presentations, and documentation for internal approval.
• Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and cedants within assigned underwriting authority.
• Escalate risks, terms, territories, occupancies, or exposures outside assigned authority or company guidelines.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of submissions, quotations, firm orders, endorsements, and underwriting decisions in the company’s systems.
• Monitor and manage the performance of assigned accounts and portfolio.
• Maintain professional relationships with brokers, cedants, and business partners.
• Coordinate with actuarial, claims, finance, operations, risk management, and senior underwriting management when required.
• Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, pricing conditions, and competitive developments.
• Support business development initiatives in coordination with senior underwriting management.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
• Professional insurance/reinsurance qualification (e.g., CII, CPCU, ARe) is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of reinsurance products, structures, and underwriting principles.
• Experience in reinsurance/insurance underwriting (treaty or facultative).
• Experience with pricing models, exposure management tools, and catastrophe modeling is desirable.

• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and long-term relationships.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of underwriting systems is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong business acumen and market awareness.
• Basic knowledge of underwriting systems and data management tools is preferred.
The company is currently seeking to fill this position with a candidate based in Asia. Remote working arrangements will also be considered for suitable candidates.
