Mandarin Re Welcomes Sebastián Vargas as Property Underwriter

Mandarin Re is pleased to announce the appointment of Sebastián Vargas as Property Underwriter, bolstering the company’s specialized property and engineering underwriting capabilities across international markets.

Sebastián brings over 12 years of specialized technical experience in structural engineering, risk assessment, and facultative underwriting, with a strong focus on South American markets. A Civil Engineer holding a Master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering, he joins Mandarin Re following his tenure in Facultative & Corporate Engineering at Munich Re.

Throughout his career, Sebastián has developed deep expertise in Natural Catastrophe (NatCat) modeling, complex civil infrastructure, energy assets, and the application of Machine Learning in risk evaluation. His background equips him with a unique ability to combine rigorous engineering principles with quantitative risk modeling to assess high-exposure property and technical risks.

His appointment directly reinforces Mandarin Re’s underwriting approach: uniting data science and predictive analytics with deep technical expertise to deliver flexible, sustainable reinsurance capacity to cedants and partners worldwide.
